Reader Confessions Tag

Because I’m too lazy to draft reviews of the books I’ve recently read (what a great book blogger you are, Kate), here’s another book tag! This one comes from Bianca over at The Ultimate Fangirl!

Time to confess!

1) Have you ever damaged a book?

Oh God, yes. I’m not proud of it. When I was younger, I would take my Harry Potter books into the bath with me and read while having a soak. Naturally, the books got wet.

2) Have you ever damaged a borrowed book?

3) How long does it take you to read a book?

It depends! If I adore the book and I have nothing to do for work or school (and depending on how much I love it, sometimes even if I do have tons to do for work or school) I can finish it in one sitting. I remember coming from school to find my copy of Deathly Hallows had arrived in the mai and flopping down on my bed to read it. When I finally finished and looked up from the book, the sun was rising, I was still wearing my school uniform, and my yaya was cooking breakfast downstairs.

Needless to say, I didn’t get a lot done at school that day.

4) Books that you haven’t finished?

5) Hyped/popular books you didn’t like?

I’m gonna be honest. I hate Sarah J. Maas’s stuff. Can’t stand it. After hearing it be all hyped up, I tried reading Throne of Glass and A Court of Thorns and Ruin and found it so trite and boring that I didn’t care to read the rest of the series. And the lack of diversity doesn’t help things any. Mediocre writing plus Whitey McWhite everywhere plus the only POC characters being killed off? Hard pass.

6) Is there a book you wouldn’t tell anyone you were reading?

Nope. I vet my books thoroughly and carefully and even if I end up not liking something, I’m honest about it. Why should I be ashamed of the things I read?

7) How many books do you own?

According to my Excel spreadsheet, 186. But! That doesn’t yet include the stuff I bought at the Big Bad Wolf sale, new books I recently bought, and the books on my Kindle.

In conclusion, I am trash.

8) Are you a fast or a slow reader?

Again, it depends! See #3. Generally though, I think I’m a fast reader.

9) Do you like to buddy read?

Honestly, no. I feel like it’s too much added pressure, and I’ve already got enough of that in my life!

10) If you were only allowed to own one book, what would it be and why?

American Gods by Neil Gaiman. I wrote about how much I loved the book here in my old blog, but I may feature this again for my new series, Bookish Throwback Thursday!

Tagging the following!

Nandini @ Unputdownable Books || Leetha @ Life Should Be Lit || Fafa @ Fafa’s Book Corner || Zaheera @ As Told By Zaheerah || Reading Escapades || Lara @ Lara Kareem

But feel free to do this tag anyway if you wanna, and leave a link in the comments!

  1. This is such a cool tag! Loved your answers! I ruined one of my Harry Potter books too, but it wasn’t for a cool reason like taking it to the bath. I lifted OoTP by the front cover alone and obviously it came apart.

    I still don’t know why I did that. 🤦🏼‍♀️

      1. It’s typed up and scheduled to post! 🙂

It was a new account and I kept posting links and blog posts and such…so they blocked it for spam… *eye roll*, then I couldn’t unblock it because they wouldn’t recognize my phone number to verify it as myself. But after some e-mails and some wait time, it is back! haha (oh the joys!)

    1. Let me just say that it happened after a late night friday class and it involves high heels, an unzipped purse, and a tray of shots 😅

I write down all the titles I have on an excel sheet and use different colored highlights to indicate if I’ve read them or reviewed them, if reviewing them is a priority, and where I got my copy 😊

  2. This tag is such a cool idea! I’ve never read a book while soaking in bath but it would be heart breaking for me so I avoid adding pain to already painful life, lol. And yup, an Excel spreadsheet can never be true about the books we trash readers own! There are just so many 😀 I read Deathly Hallows in one day too! XD This is so relatable but I didn’t read it over the night, I read it over the day and that day was school–after that, I promised myself I would focus on school more because somehow the exam was all about what was taught on THAT SINGLE DAY! 😦 I haven’t read SJM books yet but I’m avoiding it at all costs because I think I wouldn’t like them much and then everyone who loves it wouldn’t be my friend anymore LOL. No, but seriously, all my bookish friends who I trust have either not read it or not liked it so…

I loved reading through this tag, Kate! ❤

    1. Ugh. I was a dumb af child I swear 😅

I tried to be organized with Excel but it’s HAAAARD 😩

I tried reading sjm stuff and just…don’t. That’s a couple of days of my life I’ll never get back 🙄

      Thank you for reading! 💙

  3. Wow! You took your books into your bath. I’ve never laughed so hard. I’ve never damaged a book I borrowed, I love books too much, especially books that aren’t mine, I treat them with even more care than I treat my books. Depends on my mood also, I can swallow up to 2-3 books a day if I’m very free. I read fast, especially if I’m focused. I don’t know the number of books I’ve not finished, maybe up to 20. I own a lot of books, physical books not up to 50, I’ll count when I go home and eBooks, more than 500. I will try and remember to do this tag! loved your answers and I am interested in American gods, but the physical copy, if I ever come across it because I love the TV Show.
