Hi y’all. A few weeks ago, I tweeted this:
That tweet came on the heels of a very disappointing month for my blog. I had such a successful comeback for August after two months of sporadically blogging (due to a family vacation in the US, starting a new job, and moving to a new apartment), I was expecting more of the same for September. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be. I got saddled with several projects at work that require travel all over the Philippines, I have quite a number of papers to do for school, and – worst of all – I got dengue fever. (Ughhhhhh. Use insect repellant, people!)
Quite a number of friends quickly replied to my tweet, telling me that I needed to look after myself before anything else, and that the book blogging community would still be there and waiting when I got back. I’ll admit, one thing that helped me decide that a hiatus would be good for me was Shealea’s response, and her own post about going on a hiatus. I quote:
“…it is never a bad idea to take a step back whenever you feel like you need a breather. Incessantly, continuously pushing yourself and refusing to give yourself a much-needed break can lead to your own downfall – be it getting too caught up in what you’re trying to do (and failing to see the grander scheme of things) or down-spiraling into a total mental breakdown.”
That’s Shealea for you, always managing to put my thoughts out in such eloquent words.
I decided to ‘make it official’, so to speak, by posting this notice on my blog. I don’t want any old readers or future readers to come onto The Backwards Bookshelf and think I’ve totally abandoned it – which I haven’t, mind you! I absolutely will be coming back! No worries about that.
So, why am I going on my first official lengthy hiatus?
