[Top Ten Tuesday] New-to-Me Authors I Read in 2018

Hey hey hey, guys, gals, and nonbinary pals! I’m back with my second installment of Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly theme created The Broke and The Bookish in 2010 and moved to The Artsy Reader Girl in 2018.

For today, the theme is New-to-Me Authors I Read in 2018. Considering that I only started blogging and really keeping track of my reading last year (not to mention reading diversely), pretty much all the authors I read last year were new to me. 😂

Nevertheless, I picked out ten really stand-out authors I discovered in 2018 to share with you all! Please note though that I only decided to include authors who debuted prior to 2018, so that this list would still fit the bare minimum of “New-to-Me” theme. I’ve also included links to these books so you can check them out!

Let’s get started!

[Book Review] Empire of Sand – Tasha Suri // a love story wrapped in a tale of survival and sacrifice

Hey there, comrades! Today I’m going to talk about Tasha Suri’s debut novel, which has been on my radar for quite some time. I even talk about it in my most anticipated 2018 releases post. When it finally dropped, I was super excited to get started – but unfortunately, my blog hiatus happened.

Well, I finally got around to reading it just before the New Year festivities, and I finally finished it the morning of January 1st! And I think this is a great way to start the year because not only did I get to add one book to my 2019 Goodreads Reading Challenge, I got to add a five-star read to my 2019 Goodreads Reading Challenge!

So here’s what I thought of Tasha Suri’s amazing book!

[Top Ten Tuesday] Most Anticipated Releases for January, February, and March

Evening, my good comrades! As part of my 2019 goals to be more organized with my posting schedule, I’ve decided to participate in Top Ten Tuesday! As you all probably know by now, Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly theme created by The Broke and The Bookish in 2010 and moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in 2018.

For today, the topic was Most Anticipated Releases for the First Half of 2019. But because there’s just way too many books I’m looking forward to coming out this year, I’ve decided to divide this post into quarters. So today, I’ll be talking about my Most Anticipated Releases for January, February, and March.

[Book Review] The Girl King – Mimi Yu // vaguely problematic, but not enough to be totally written off

Whaddup, homies? (Homie is still gender-neutral, yes?) Today I’ll be reviewing one of my most anticipated reads for 2019 (speaking of which, I’ll be talking about this year’s releases that I’m looking forward to, so keep an eye out for that post!), the East Asian inspired fantasy, The Girl King. I was semi-resigned to just having to get it on Amazon or Book Depository, but, wonder of wonders, NetGalley granted this request for me!

Too bad I really didn’t enjoy it.

I tried, I really did! It looked like it was going to be another one of those books whose praises I shouted to the heavens! (And y’all know how hard I roll for the books I love.) But it just wasn’t meant to be.

January 2019 TBR

It’s been ages since I last posted a TBR! Wow – my blogging life really has fallen by the wayside, huh? 😅

Now I know a ton of you are actually mood readers, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that! But having a monthly TBR helps me add some structure to my reading and blogging life, and we all know that lately I’m all about having structure.

So what am I planning to read for the first month of 2019?

2019 Blogging Goals + Looking Back at 2018’s Goals

Happy New Year, guys, gals, and enby pals! Here we are, on the first day of the year 2019! I hope everyone’s having a great day so far. And if not, chin up, friend! This is the dawn of a whole new 365 days, and you’ve got the whole year to make things better for yourself.

One of the things I positively adore about the New Year holidays is the chance to reflect on my goals and resolutions! I realize such things may be trite and ineffective for some, but for me, it honestly, truly works. Having a concrete list of what I want to achieve in a given amount of time. (It’s the Amy Santiago in me, I’m sure.)

For today’s post, obviously, I’m gonna be talking about my blogging goals for 2019. But I’m also gonna do a quick recap of my goals from 2018. It’ll be nice to see if I’ve accomplished everything I’ve set out to do when I first started this blog, don’t you think?

Let’s get on with the show!
