2019 Blogging Goals + Looking Back at 2018’s Goals

Happy New Year, guys, gals, and enby pals! Here we are, on the first day of the year 2019! I hope everyone’s having a great day so far. And if not, chin up, friend! This is the dawn of a whole new 365 days, and you’ve got the whole year to make things better for yourself.

One of the things I positively adore about the New Year holidays is the chance to reflect on my goals and resolutions! I realize such things may be trite and ineffective for some, but for me, it honestly, truly works. Having a concrete list of what I want to achieve in a given amount of time. (It’s the Amy Santiago in me, I’m sure.)

For today’s post, obviously, I’m gonna be talking about my blogging goals for 2019. But I’m also gonna do a quick recap of my goals from 2018. It’ll be nice to see if I’ve accomplished everything I’ve set out to do when I first started this blog, don’t you think?

Let’s get on with the show!

2018 In a Nutshell

Hey there guys, gals, and non-binary pals! CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT 2018 IS OVER? Because I sure as hell can’t! Seems like just yesterday I was toying with the idea of starting a book blog. And here I am, a little over ten months later, now with an audience, now a part of a wonderful community. I can’t believe how far I’ve come along! I am so happy, y’all!

Book blogging has become such a huge and important part of my life. Not only have I met so many wonderful people and made so many new friends, I’ve also improved my reading habits (making efforts to read diversely, critiquing books in a more nuanced way, viewing literature through a more contextual lens) and actually met my Goodreads challenge!

So overall, 2018 was a good year to me and my blog, and here’s how it went:

Guess Who’s Back? (Tell Your Friends)

Guess who’s back, bitches!

Kaugnay na larawan

Back in October, I said I’d be going on hiatus – and I’m happy to report that I’m back and raring to go! I have a more organized system in place now (thank you to Kaleena, Marie, and Shealea for their super informative blog posts and sample spreadsheets!) which will help me keep on top of blogging despite my full-time job and school load. I have a ton of new stuff lined up to make up for two months, so basicallt  I’m so excited to get started with this new endeavor: The Backwards Bookshelf 2.0!

To new followers, welcome. To old followers, welcome back. Let’s get on with the show!

July 2018 Wrap-Up…of sorts

Okay, so here’s the thing.

July did not turn out to be the blogging extravaganza I thought it would be. I planned out so many posts. I thought I’d be reading and commenting on so many other blogs. But, sadly, all of that did not happen. (I did engage a lot on Twitter though. Does that count?)

To be honest, seeing the number of posts for June and July in comparison to when I first started this blog is making me sad, and I’m honestly just terrified of losing my passion for book blogging.

I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m really just trying to forgive myself for not fully getting back on the blogging horse. After all, I’m currently undergoing some hella stressful transitions and changes in life that would put the damper on any kind of creative endeavor, not just blogging. But I’m having a bit of a difficult time not being hard on myself. You know how it goes. We’re our own worst critics.

So, with hopes of forgiveness for myself, this was my July.

June 2018 Wrap-Up!

So I had a shit ton of stuff planned for June 2018. Did I actually do any of it?

Okay, to be fair, I did do some of it. Still, June was my worst month for blogging so far. I had more posts in March, when I first started this blog, then I did last month. As I mentioned on Twitter, halfway through my vacation in the States, I hit a huge creative slump. I didn’t blog, and I didn’t work on my WIPs at all. I did cut through a large chunk of my planned June 2018 TBR, but even that I lost interest in as the month ended.

I’m trying not to be too hard on myself for that – slumps happen, and it certainly doesn’t help that I wasn’t in familiar surroundings (constantly being on the move and traveling from state to state will do that to a girl), but it’s hard, especially when I look back on my May 2018 Wrap-Up and see how excited I was to get some serious reading and blogging done.

Still, June 2018 wasn’t a total bust. I did manage to get some stuff done…

May 2018 Wrap-Up!

I recently hit 200 followers on this blog (as of posting, I have 217!), and I couldn’t be more grateful! Honestly, I still can’t believe there are people out there – like real live actual people that aren’t my mom – who are interested in me screaming about the books that I loved and ranting about the ones that I hated. Thank you all so much! And spread the word to your friends: I follow back. Hahaha!

Here’s what I was up to this May.
